Ayla International School (AIS) was built under the believes of it's founder, Puteri Zailan to give a nurturing and stimulating environment for children of all nationalities. Through her 20 years of experience as an early childhood educator, she felt that most of the curriculum for young children are too structured or not well guided and facilitated. She believed that children are the voice of the future.

Ms.Zailan wanted the children to observe, investigate and experiment with things that interest them. The programs are exclusively designed for parents who want their children to be independent, self-confident and flexible learners. AIS provides a homely environment that makes children relaxed and well focus in their current activities. The goal of our approach is to educate the whole child in spirit, heart and mind.

We encourage children to use their imaginations and allow them to express themselves in ways other than writing or speaking.
The facilities at AIS, includes a wide terrace for playground adventure, an art space or “atelier” and a music room where children are introduced to a variety of music, songs and dances from all over the world.
At AIS, we want children to come to school to think and
become curious, creative and diligent young learners.

Children will start the day with a classroom discussion.
Each classrooms are decorated with the children's art masterpieces. Children are encouraged to use the natural materials such as pinecones, seashells, twigs and more for their spontaneous creation during art or playtime.
These materials are freely available to encourage exploration, expression and learning.

Our key method is to give the opportunity for each child to be expressive and excited about learning. We believe that if you turn them onto learning now, it will follow them for the rest of their lives.

Ayla International School was founded by Puteri Zailan in 2003.
She was awarded by the Japanese Monbusho Scholarship Organization to study Early childhood Education in Tokyo, Japan in 1989.

She later became the first foreigner to be granted with a Japanese Early Childhood Certificate and license. Before starting AIS, she taught in several Japanese Kindergartens and International Schools.

As a child, Ms. Zailan traveled and lived in different countries because of her father's work. Through her childhood experiences, she felt that it was a great opportunity to become multilingual. She started the school with an idea to help children value their identities and culture backgrounds.

Ms. Zailan designed Ayla Method through her continuos research with children. Most of her approach and inspiration are based on Jean Piaget, Rudolph Steiner, Loris Malaguzzi, Erik Erikson and other similar researchers.

Ms. Zailan is a multingual person herself. She speaks native English, Malay and Japanese. She is also able to speak a little Indonesia, German and Arabic due to her studies during her college years.
